Please join us for our MMIWG (Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls) MMIP (Missing & Murdered Indigenous Peoples) Recognition Event,  Friday May 5th at the Nome Recreation Center.

Village of Solomon, Kawerak, Inc. and Norton Sound Health Corporation have collaborated to bring this memorable event together. Vocalist Witty Youngman will be in attendance and perform her original song addressing MMIWG. Lieutenant Governor Nancy Dahlstrom as well as local leaders Kirsten Timbers and Melanie Bahnke will offer their remarks to honor the day. All members of the community are welcome to attend to show their support, make signs, and walk in recognition of those who have loved and lost, as well as for survivors, family members and friends.

Potluck – There will also be a potluck to share in our time together. Please bring a dish, and you will be entered to win $250 for each dish you bring.

Signs and Shirts – A limited number of signs and shirts will be available for decorating at the event. If you can, feel free to bring art supplies and a red shirt if you have one.

Walk Route – The walk will start at 6pm at City Hall on Front Street, up Bering Street, onto Greg Kruschek Bypass Road past the Public Safety Building, onto Alaska Gold Access Rd/East D Street behind the Recreation Center to end inside the Recreation Center for the closing ceremony.

4:45 Prepare for walk with face paint and decorating signs

6:30 Walk, Meet at City Hall (Route start at city hall, walk up Bering to Greg Kruschek Bypass Road for moment of silence at Public Safety Building, then back to Recreation Center)

7:15 Closing Ceremony & Potluck (Recreation Center):
