PAY SCALE GRADE:               11-12-13 ($36.90 – $48.17 D.O.E)

REPORTS TO:                           Contaminated Sites Program Manager

Kawerak, Inc. is a non-profit organization that relies on federal agency and grant funding primarily to fund positions. This position is funded by agency or grant funding.  This means that this position, as with all positions at Kawerak, is subject to availability of funding each year to continue to fund the position.

 

The Environmental Protection Agency Tribal Response Program (EPA/TRP) Contaminated Sites Program grant provides funding to this position to gather and track information about known or perceived contaminated sites within the Bering Strait region, develop outreach and educational opportunities for regional residents, and provide technical assistance to tribes with assessment, cleanup planning and execution.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist the Program Manager with program planning and development and ensure implementation of project goals and objectives. This includes developing program and grant progress reports, assisting with grant applications, and working with state and federal agencies.
  2. Work with regional entities, community members, key stakeholders, and local village leadership to ensure the success of grant expectations and outcome measures.
  3. Present information about the Contaminated Sites Program to communities within the Bering Strait region to educate residents about what the program offers. Guide and assist communities with the process of moving from documenting contaminated sites to cleanup and remediation, and provide project updates.
  4. Promote the program through a comprehensive public information campaign to broaden the awareness of this program. Utilize a variety of methods to educate the public about the program including social media, website updates, and presentations.
  5. Assist communities with contaminated sites documentation by using GPS, drones, photos, or other means. Upload site reports to Public Record and update the Public Record, which is located on Kawerak website, annually.
  6. As requested, travel to and attend various meetings or trainings for the Contaminated Sites Program, including in-region and out-of-region travel.
  7. Other duties as assigned by the Contaminated Sites Program Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associates degree plus two years of work experience in environmental field. Work experience in related fields may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year for year basis.
  1. HAZWOPER and Oil Spill Response certification preferred with a willingness to obtain certifications once hired.
  2. Must possess strong written, organizational and oral communication skills.
  3. Must possess basic computer knowledge and skills of Microsoft Excel and Word programs.
  4. Must be willing and able to travel.
  5. Experience in cross-cultural and rural settings preferred.
  6. Must be willing to attend evening and weekend functions as required
  1. Must be dependable, self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
