REPORTS TO: Community Planning & Development Program Director
The Energy Program Coordinator is responsible for the facilitation and coordination of regional energy program initiatives, planning, development projects, and training. The Energy Program Coordinator will be the main point of contact at Kawerak for regional energy planning and development projects. Developing sustainable and affordable energy solutions for the region will be the goal of this program; the Energy Program Coordinator will support Kawerak initiatives and regional projects that help communities to improve their energy development and project management capacity.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate the Energy Program at Kawerak; be responsible for project management, energy planning, community engagement, regional outreach and information distribution for the region.
- Provide energy-related technical assistance to Tribal communities in the Bering Strait Region including workforce development and training opportunities, energy planning, project planning, and connecting communities with technical experts.
- Organize, plan, and host training and outreach events for energy development projects in the region.
- Assist village planners, environmental coordinators, and other Tribal staff in researching sustainable energy solutions and providing technical assistance for funding applications.
- Assist other Community Planning & Development (CPD) program staff in community planning activities to develop supporting documentation for energy-related planning efforts. This includes assisting CPD staff with the development of the Local Economic Development Plans (LEDP) for each community, and the Regional Community Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), and other initiatives that benefit the full region.
- Maintain a high level of communication with village-based energy workforce, utility managers, utility companies and cooperatives, community grant writers, environmental coordinators, Tribes, Native Corporations, and municipalities regarding energy development projects, regional energy planning, and funding opportunities.
- Maintain a high level of communication with partner agencies regarding energy issues in the Bering Strait Region, as well as locally developed strategies to address concerns.
- Travel to communities in the Bering Strait Region to provide on-going technical assistance and training, energy planning facilitation, and energy project development support, as well as travel to regional, local, and statewide energy conferences and training events to further expand the technical assistance network to benefit the region.
- Other duties as assigned by the Community Planning & Development Program Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field. Related work experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
- Previous experience in providing technical assistance or training programs preferred.
- Previous experience in grant writing and/or grant management preferred.
- Must have strong oral and written communication skills, organizational and budgeting skills.
- Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds.

- Must possess computer skills in Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel, e-mail and Internet usage. Also, prefer Microsoft Power Point skills;
- Must be willing and able to travel within and outside of the region.
