Congratulations to Kawerak’s Emergency Preparedness Specialist Kevin Knowlton for the recent recognition by Alaska Emergency Management Association (AKEMA) as Emergency Manager of the Year! Kevin joined the Kawerak Infrastructure Department in his position in 2021, building on his lengthy background of service, including 23 years in the Army National Guard, 25 years as a First Responder in Nome, 15 years as a CPR/First Aid Instructor and 5 years as a Hunter Safety Instructor in the State of Alaska.
Kevin embraces the opportunity to dedicate his time and energy toward helping others. He says his motivation comes from the opportunity to “help reduce the affect of local disasters on the people in the Bering Strait region.”
