Workshop Summary

If you want to start or run a successful business, you have to understand the numbers. Regardless of the industry, size or other unique features of your business, financial analysis is critical to both starting a business and staying in business.

If you are working on the feasibility of an idea or writing a business plan, you need this class! This workshop will teach you how to develop a financial plan using the AK SBDC’s Financial Model tool which is an extensive Excel model. Don’t worry, no previous experience with Excel is necessary.

Topics covered include the following:

  • Start-Up Budget
  • Salaries and Wages
  • Fixed Expenses
  • Sales Projections
  • Income Statements
  • Cash Flow Statements
  • Balance Sheets

The results of this exercise will be ready to insert into the financial portion of your business plan.

Jennifer Adams, MBA, Director of Rural Program Development at AKSBDC (https://aksbdc.org/)

Jennifer Adams is a seasoned business professional, having served in various executive-level positions such as CEO of a state agency housing/construction agency, director of planning and development for a large Alaska Native social service agency, and executive director of an Alaska Native Elders’ organization. In the past, she worked for The Status Group in Las Vegas, writing business plans for small business clients wishing to pursue bank loans. Jennifer also has a background in human resources, corporate legal experience, budget development, government contracting, strategic planning, and technical writing. She has owned a consulting business since 2013. Originally from Allakaket and Fairbanks– Jennifer loves serving entrepreneurs in Juneau and rural Alaska.

Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with Minors in both Alaska Native Studies and Applied Business, as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Alaska – Fairbanks.
