Kawerak College Transitions Program

Kawerak College Transitions Program exists to assist new freshman from the Bering Strait region in settling into college successfully with a focus on in-state universities.

What the program offers: 

  • Pays for airfare to and from the city your college is located for the first semester.
  • Gives $500 stipend to purchase items needed for college (ie. books, supplies, personal items).
  • Guidance to navigate starting college and resources.
  • Have a Kawerak Transition Team member escort you to campus, help get you set up in the dorms, tour the city and feel ready for college life.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a graduating high-school senior or a student who has graduated within two years and who will be attending college for the first time on campus. Students who have completed dual-credit courses or who attended online classes are eligible to participate.
  • Must meet all eligibility criteria for Kawerak’s MyCache scholarships, and all documents must be submitted by the deadline.
  • Must be a tribal member of Kawerak’s Consortium of Tribes.
  • Must be attending University of Alaska-Anchorage, University of Alaska-Fairbanks, University of Alaska-Southeast.

What you need to do:

  • Apply to Kawerak’s Fall Higher Education Scholarship (apply through my-cache.org – this should be completed by Transitions Application Deadline)
  • Apply to the Transitions program by April 19.

There is a limit to the number of students who can take advantage of this opportunity. Please do not delay in submitting your application. The application deadline is April 19th, 2024.
