We are pleased to announce our award winners for Employees of the Quarter and Team of the Quarter for Quarter 1, January – March 2022!

Employees of the Quarter

Danielle Slingsby – Outreach Director

“Danielle is always willing to help with advertising, public outreach, editing documents, and creating graphics for our program. We’ve created many new positions for Pilgrim Hot Springs, and Danielle has had many creative ideas for how to advertise those positions to find the right candidate. I appreciate her honesty, eye for detail, and responsiveness. I always know that Danielle will answer an email or a text or will quickly make a social media post for something I’m working on. In January, Danielle offered several hours of her time to assist us with an online community discussion about the Pilgrim Hot Springs Garden and food security initiatives. She joined calls with our contractors, organized Zoom and Facebook Live streaming, and handled it all with ease. She also participated in the discussion, which means she truly listens, and cares deeply about her home community. I really appreciate all that she does for our program, for Kawerak, and for the region. -Amanda Toerdal, nominator

Colleen Adams – Community Education Program Administrative Assistant

“Colleen is always courteous, helpful, and gets the job done with a positive attitude every day. She goes above and beyond to help students and works great with other employees. Her perseverance “and willingness to help out truly make a difference in our department. If anyone is scheduled to be out of the office, she can always be counted on taking the incoming phone calls and is always available if anyone has questions about our division. Before we were able to hire more employees, Colleen took on more duties than what was expected of her.

-Crystal Outwater, nominator

Pearl Mikulski – Planner

“Pearl has been with Kawerak for 10+ years. She has done an outstanding job with the region’s broadband effort, as well as applying for grants. Getting informed about the broadband needs and then all the work to get Spectrum on behalf of tribes has been a huge effort. She works well with other departments and staff. She has also recently assisted NEC with their strategic planning effort and she did a GREAT job. She is a strong supporter of Kawerak, our people and our tribes. There is an influx of grants available and she is trying to stay on top of them as well as assist our departments submit grants before or at due dates. With the VP on leave, Pearl has also had to do double duty in some instances. She is a one woman team at this time and is doing a great job. ” -Mary David, nominator

Team of the Quarter – Head Start Core Staff

Lola Hannon, Wilsa Sinnok, Brenda Henry, Ashley Crowe, Melly Kingeekuk

“This group of ladies needs to be recognized for all the things they do for our families, children and Head Start. They are a group of ladies that has to wear many hats while they are in work status. They are the first contact for our families, teachers, and core-staff. They take on the duties of making sure that our Head Start is running smoothly. They act for other staff members who are not in. They are the in-between person for both staff and core staff. They help with training our teaching staff to get needed trainings completed. They are a group of people that Head Start relies on to make sure everything is done. These ladies are an AWESOME group to be working with.”
