 Child Care Assistance

The Kawerak Child Care Assistance Program provides financial assistance to eligible Alaska Native families who are working, attending job training or school, subsisting or seeking work who are in need child care services.

The goal of Kawerak Child Care Services is to increase the availability, affordability, and quality of childcare for our families.

  • Alaska Native or American Indian
  • Enrolled or soon to be enrolled in a Tribe
  • Be a resident within the region for at least the past 3 months
  • Under the age of 13
  • Under the age of 19 with a disability

Parents or guardians must be actively engaged in one of the following activities 20 more hours a week:

  • Working
  • Attending school
  • Attending job training
  • Subsistence activities
  • Job search

All families seeking State of Alaska Child Care Assistance* – The following table lists the monthly gross income guidelines to determine State subsidy eligibility:

Please note*: Tribally Approved Relative Provider Care is not eligible for State Child Care Assistance.
  1. Complete and sign the Kawerak Child Care Services Application
  2. Complete the Kawerak Education, Employment, and Supportive Services Intake Form
  3. A copy of your government issued photo identification
  4. Verification of tribal enrollment and Bering Strait residency for each child you are requesting child care services for
  5. Proof of all income (last 2 pay stubs) received by the parent/legal guardian on the application. If newly employed or volunteering, an employee verification form. If self-employed, submit a 1040 income tax statement.
  6. Immunization records for each child receiving State licensed child care
  7. If determined eligible, a complete State of Alaska Child Care Assistance Application
  8. An acceptance or denial letter from the LeeShore Center Child Care Assistance Office, if required by Kawerak
  9. If applicable, proof of child custody (this can be a court order, affidavit, or statement)
  10. If applicable, proof of any child support you are legally obligated to pay and are paying
  11. If applicable, a copy of your current or future school schedule including the school name and classes you are registered to attend / if attending high school, include the school name and hours
  12. If applicable, proof of current or future college financial aid/account summary by semester if attending an institution within the State of Alaska
  13. If applicable, care provided in your own home requires compliance with a Tribally Approved Background Check on any adult 18 years or older residing in the home
