JOB TITLE: Wellness Program Director

PAY SCALE RANGE: 15-16-17
REPORTS TO: Vice President of CSD
The Wellness Program Director maintains all current funding used to support the wellness program and its initiatives, seeks and applies for new funding to ensure initiatives are sustained and completed. The Wellness Program Director works closely with each program specialist to plan and manage the workload in each grant to ensure the goals and objectives of each funding source are met. The Wellness program Director is in charge of reviewing and updating the Wellness 5 year plan in addition to updating the activity plan annually to ensure the program is on track for meeting identified goals. The Wellness Program Director will become qualified to provide training, education and presentations that is written within the 5 year plan, and will conduct outreach and planning within Kawerak and with project partners in Nome, the region, and statewide. The Wellness Program Director will work closely with the Community Alcohol Safety Team (CAST), Regional Wellness Forum, and relevant coalitions to advocate for wellness related initiatives and to share information about the department’s goals and activities.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate with the program specialists and their community coalitions (ie. The CAST and Regional Wellness Forum) for program planning and development to ensure implementation of the goals and objectives of each funding source is met.
- Responsible for the overall financial management of the program, including developing, monitoring and modifying budgets as required by the organization and funding agency.
- Develop and submit program reports as required by the organization and funding agency.
- Develop system for data collection and analysis to be used to create an effective program.
- Develop & update protocols and memoranda of agreement to improve the delivery and coordination of services among agencies and communities in the region.
- Coordinate the evaluation of services throughout the duration of the grant on project objectives.
- Work with the project partners to develop an analysis of existing service needs, gaps, and potential resources. Plan strategies to meet those needs.
- Work with regional entities, community members, key stakeholders, youth, elders and tribal leaders to ensure outcome expectations and outcome measures are met.
- Research culturally appropriate and evidence based practices to transform the behavioral health systems service model and treatment options for the target population within the Bering Strait region.
- Develop funding streams to sustain Wellness Program by seeking and applying for funding.
- Provide supervision, training, and direction to Wellness program staff; conduct staff evaluations; provide hiring and firing recommendations for the President’s consideration.
- Assist with the goals and objectives of each grant and funding source within the department. .
- Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of the Community Services Division.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in the field of social work, psychology, counseling or related field. Supervisory work experience in a related field may substitute for degree requirement on a year for year basis.
- Two years experience in supervisory or management preferred.
- Computer, keyboarding and office skills required. Knowledge of Microsoft word, excel, windows and internet skills required
- Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, organizational and budgeting skills
- Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds.
- This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act AS 47.05.310-47.05.390, 7 AAC 10.900-10.990, and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, 25 USC 3201-3211 (ICPA). A background check clearance is required, including fingerprints, and the employee’s name will be submitted to the Background Check Unit of the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services and entered into their central registry. Barrier Crimes Act and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position..
