Housing Strategy & Development

Kawerak strives to improve housing access and availability across the Bering Strait Region by focusing on three priorities: coordinating efforts to increase the housing stock through partnerships and innovative models, reducing barriers to homeownership by streamlining processes and sharing resources, and encouraging regional corporations to develop comprehensive 14(c)(3) Land Use Plans that provide the foundation for future housing projects.

Kawerak leadership advocates for housing policies that expand opportunities, promote culturally grounded models, and build strong partnerships with federal agencies and programs that support collaborative and self-help construction approaches. Through collaboration and advocacy, we will create sustainable, community-driven housing solutions that reflect the unique needs and priorities of our region.
