Genocide Rhetoric Must Be Rejected By All – Kawerak Inc.’s Response to Ann Coulter’s Statement: “We Didn’t Kill Enough Indians”

As a Native organization rooted in the enduring strength, dignity, and sovereignty of Indigenous Peoples, we are appalled and saddened that public hate speech and outwardly genocidal comments have any place in the world, let alone “the land of the free and home of the brave.” Ann Coulter’s recent statement that “we didn’t kill enough Indians” is not only hateful and violent—it is a chilling reminder of the racism and genocide that Native communities have survived for centuries.

Let us be clear: this is not “free speech.” This is genocidal rhetoric. It celebrates the systematic extermination of Native people—women, children, elders, entire nations. It mocks the trauma carried by our communities and dishonors the lives of our ancestors who were massacred, displaced, and silenced.

Words like Ms. Coulter’s are not harmless. They reinforce the erasure of Native people from American society, embolden hate groups, and deepen the wounds of colonial violence that are still open today. We call on media platforms, publishers, and the broader public to reject and condemn this kind of language unequivocally.

Despite centuries of efforts to eliminate us, we are still here. We are thriving, organizing, reclaiming language, land, and culture. We are Indigenous sovereign nations, and we will not be erased.

We invite Ms. Coulter—and those who amplify voices like hers—to learn the true history of this land: one built not on freedom, but on stolen land, broken treaties, and the blood of not only Native peoples, but also Black and all People of Color. And we invite our allies to stand with us, not just in outrage, but in action.

We demand:

  • A public apology from Ms. Coulter
  • Accountability from media organizations that provide her a platform
  • Concrete commitments from leaders and institutions to combat Indigenous erasure

This moment is not just about one person’s words. It is about the systems that allow such dehumanization to go unchecked. Whether the violence is against the indigenous, LGBTQ2+, immigrants, minorities – it must all be denounced and rejected.  We are watching. And we are not going anywhere.
