The Annual Reindeer Herders Association Meeting was held November 27-28 2023.

Members gathered from across the RHA Communities (see kawerak.org/rha for the list of communities) to discuss past and current issues. This meeting, representatives from many different organizations also came to present, each offering information that is and could be relatable for the reindeer in Western Alaska.  Federal agencies included USDA was represented by the Farm Service Agency and Natural Resource Conservation Service, along with the National Park Service, and the Bureau of Land Management. State agencies included the State of Alaska’s Office of the State Veterinarian, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, and the Alaska Department of Natural Resources. The University of Alaska High Latitude Range Managment Council and the Alaska Food Policy Council were also represented to share information with the herders.

The Reindeer Herders Association’s mission is to provide assistance to its twenty-one members in the development of a viable reindeer industry, to enhance the economic base for rural Alaska and to improve the management of the herds.
