History:
There are barrels of tar that have broken open and leaked onto the site. The site was until recently art of a bank near the water. Erosion has exposed the tar barrels. The barrels were placed there many years ago after the first airstrip was built. Site is 10 acres.
Concerns:
The community uses this area to fish from. They also gather spring greens on this site. That ceased recently when the barrels became exposed. The community would like the area tested to see if there are contaminants and if the greens they have been gathering have inadvertently been contaminated and if there are health concerns they should address. They would like the area to be reused as a greenspace area to continue their traditional gathering and fishing activities and to ensure their people are eating healthy and safe subsistence resources.
